I did run it in administrator mode and I am an administrator (that's what control panel says). However, if I try to edit things in regedit it gives a access denied error. I then tried to change permissions and got access denied again... Any help?

    Edit group policy..

Disable that.."Prevent access to registry editing tools..

That link helped, I did "right click -> permissions -> flag administrator with full control", this gives access denied. What you need to do is "right click -> permissions -> advanced -> change owner to current user account -> flag administrator with full control". You never had to do the extra step in Windows 7 though.
