Is there a way to remove Edge completely from Windows 10? I was using Toggle Tweaker but it hasn't been updated in forever and doesn't do it correctly anymore. Is there an up to date alternative tool to use?
Oh I don’t doubt either can be removed. But, for me, when is the result worth the effort? I’m somewhat familiar with install_wim_tweak.exe but it created enough problematic situations it just wasn’t worth further effort. But, that’s just me. There are some things I find it’s best to just ignore, with Edge and IE being two of them.
First, I wasn't advocating their removal just explaining the easy way to do so. Second there is no collateral effect removing either edge and explorer (the optional component part) thre may be some problems removing the whole explorer including the libraries, some older program may rely on them. That said, yes they are worth to remove if done before the installation, less if done on a live system. But given the ISO cleanup is practically mandatory, is better to remove edge and explorer as well
Removing explorer is fairly easy too. That is just done in the Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features. What is the latest version of install_wim_tweak.exe? I have that too already but I feel that it isn't as good as it could be because it leaves traces scattered all over.
You don't gain a single byte of storage this way. Scattered what? AFAIK Wim tweak Is just an interface to DISM. Dism does the job.
Much better/simpler to just ignore Edge/IE. I use Firefox x64 DE exclusively and it has all its defaults so I never see pesky Edge screens pop up from time to time. If your boot drive is so short on space that you are thinking of removing it to gain back c:\ space, you really, really need to invest in a larger boot drive. 1TB 7200 rpm mechanicals can be had for ~$50; 250GB SSDs can be had for < $90. On my boot SSD nothing is there except Windows, Utilities, and device drivers--and I still have 125GB free, after reserving 10% of the drive and using it for my system-managed swap file.
MS gives option to uninstall Internet Explorer, at least that’s what it calls the effect. Just find it in All apps and right-click it to be taken to the right place. But it doesn’t give such option in the case of Edge. There must be a reason for this. It might be that the reason is commercial, that they want to promote its use. But it’s too risky to assume that without thorough understanding. Using third party tools, especially ones unproven for the duo Win10/Edge, by no means reduces the risk. I’d agree with the prudent views. If in doubt, don’t and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. And if you want consolation, Edge is not a bad browser, certainly superior to IE, and may get better with updates. My simple advice is keep it and wait.
removing ie with dism breaks a few things, best to leave it installed, plenty of other stuff that can be removed without breaking windows.
