Windows 10 x86 will run better than 7 on that.

    Hi,
Forget Windows 7 or 10 with this kind of machine. I use Lubuntu in a similar machine (Packard Bell netbook ATOM 270 1 GB RAM) which consums much lower RAM than Linux Mint. If you switch the HDD with a SSD (an old model is enough, you can find first Intel generations 40 GB for 50$), it will work pretty good.

Sadly adding memory & SSD it costs more than the whole value of the unit itself. Looks like false economy to keep it on life-support

True. The sh1tty mini laptop is an old model and its replacement / upgrading parts are scarce and if one could find them, quite expensive.

SSD's are said to out last platter drives, so even if you did buy one for an old laptop, you could still re-use it in another pc after that one dies.... memory, not so much because it's always changing. And currently memory prices are through the roof
I have heard rumors of DDR5 memory coming out next year
