Check out the forums - DELL bioses cannot (yet) be modded, because they are proprietary (DELL uses custom Phoenix bios). Better to wait, I guess some solution will come also for DELL notebook owners.
btw are these the correct BIOS for my Inspiron 518(desktop)? I just wanna double check since you mentioned 530 in your post.
Yes this is correct bios for your machine also when you select inspiron 518 from dell downloads it comes up as dimensions machine.
I tried it on my Dell Inspiron 518 and it worked... Activation of Windows 7 with 7loader 1.5 also worked. Thanks for the help "urie"...
I used this bios and now am receiving a "no timer tick interrupt" and the screen looks distorted. After hitting F1 i'm able to get past the error and boot fine, just curious if anyone else getting this error.
Successful Update, but no advanced features Hello, I've been searching for an unlocked bios for my Inspiron 518 and thought that is what I have stumbled upon looking at this post. I too was running the 1.0.8 version from Dell. So, I updated with a bootable usb drive and the bios files within this post, but didn't see anything in the bios unlocked that I didn't have before updating. Maybe I just had incorrect assumptions of what this unlocked bios might have. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My main goal would be to possibly up FSB speed / CPU speed. I also heard this board limits you to 4GB max memory. Thanks again, G
Urie, do you have any ideas on how I can get my hands on a fully unlocked bios for my inspiron 518? Allowing me to mess with FSB, multipliers, and other advanced settings that are seemingly blocked out by the dell 1.0.8 bios? Is this something that I'm just wishing for and is not available? Thanks in advance...
@ Busykid508, think Sean03060 must be really busy 3 months to take five mins off to check our bios mods. machine will be out of date before we get feedbackfrom him. I have had feedback on this thread the bios mod i did works.
