request: HP Recovery partition/dvd of Windows 7 Right now, if I press F11 during boot, it will load back Vista. Can anyone who has an HP notebook with Windows 7 make an image of their recovery partition? thanks
I will be burning the "recovery" DVDs of a dv4-2040us. I can mail you a copy of the DVDs. PM your info. Alex
Hey, Here is what I've done with my Presario CQ60 machine. 1. Remove but not merge the RECOVERY partition with some tool like gparted. Means that you leave the 12 gb partition showing up as unallocated space. 2. Download and install the HP Enhanced Backup & Recovery Manager (links below). Once it is installed it's gonna suggest the creation of the HP RECOVERY partition and the creation of a set of recovery disks. Just follow the steps as suggested by the wizard. When you're done you'll have a F11 recovery partition with your newly installed OS as well a set of recovery disks serving the same purpose. h**p://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem=ob-61280-2&lang=en&cc=us&mode=3& Cheers
WOW Just what I was looking for as I have a CQ60 too. Will give this a go,hope it works. Thanks DracUK
Well i downloaded that to my laptop (HP 6510b running win7U 32bit) According to winrar when unraring it it says archive is damaged but it still the same size (211.8 MB for me) but i get an errormessage when trying to run it, even in compatibility mode..
So a 200mb downloaded file becomes "4gig?" recovery discs? how is that possible? Does it prompt for an Windows 7 disc or downloads something more
Thanks very much, worked a treat here. Now have Win7 recovery partion on Compaq CQ60.I did have a spot of bother at first because my Win 7 System Partition was greater than the Original Vista 12gb Recovery Partition.I had to either resize the EMPTY VISTA Recovery Partition or format the Full drive to just one drive (C).I chose to format the drive, reinstall Win 7 and then installed the HP program and it created the Recovery Partition D on the end so I then resized the C partition to include a Data Partition E. Thanks to OP for this program DracUK
Yes no need for recovery disks infact once youve created the recovery partition you can create the disks. DracUK
But where is the data (windows 7, etc) coming from? the internet? So no one know how this magical tool works?
It's just making an image of your folders like what most backup utilities do (Acronis, Ghost etc..) but for free Im gonna check it out myself now as a matter of fact
Are you using a HP or Compaq machine? When you download the program just run setup.exe from its folder it should then give the option to create recovery partition. It does not install the program to your machine until the end. DracUK
