I think you may need to reread the text I quoted, specifically I was voluntarily giving any information that I knew about an OPK/OAK. Do not need your snide comments.
Thanks! Combining your file list with the autoexec/config content in the link I can create a similar floppy in English, I guess that's as close as I'll get from the "untouched" floppy. I think the OAKCDROM.SYS is the driver that comes by default in the OAK kit, and OEM builders would use their own custom CD driver when OAKCDROM.SYS was not compatible, hence different floppies for each OEM.
I'm pretty sure that's the case, but the information about it is very sparse, all I could find were dead links for msdos OPK.
i know everything is meant only well. but we are looking for the needle in the haystack, and you give the guidance as everyone here can grow the haystack. how to make own boot cd, how to slipsteam, how to makes AIO .... the web is full of this f**king gides and homebrew nonsens. but nobody write a gude (or link to a serious guide) "how to Rip" original CD/DVD flopys etc. without overdumped stuff. This is not meant evil, but think simply times why it is extremely difficult to find originals.
but always remember, this is a German floppy. other languages have partial other files (depend on Keybourd layout and language depended driver)
Yes I have that in mind. I'll first create boot floppies from within en-US and pt-PT Windows to see the differences, and then act accordingly. Obviously the final floppy will not be the original but at least it will be close. A pt-PT version will be impossible to find, but an en-US floppy is probably stuffed away in someone's closet... EDIT: I'll make it so we're sure it's a fake by messing with the original files EDIT2: By the way, what's the label of your floppy? And do the files have the same timestamp as the ones in the CD it comes with?
I have several "CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk" floppies that came in DSP/OEM multipacks. The identifying part number on a majority of them is 000-44984. They have the same time stamp as the files from the Windows 95 CD. Also, they have the REM notes to OEM intact, like the link you posted me. I have dumped the floppy with WinImage but I never bothered to share because of someone that has begged for such a floppy all over the internet and harassing multiple people. If you are interested in the .ima dump file PM me.
While I appreciate the authenticity of original media as released by M$, I do not see the point in having this boot floppy. It is quite useless in the authentic state, as it does not include a CD-ROM driver but only notes for the OEM to alter it. So really, what is the point on having it if it can't be used to boot with without altering it yourself? The method I gave to johney earlier on how to create the floppy is a Microsoft Utility provided within the OPK. And it was the same way that OEM's made their boot floppy for end users back in the distribution days of Windows 95.
1. Label FAT12: BOOT_DISK 2. Label (Root file entry with bit for label property set): BOOT_DISK most filees have same date (diff time) as the cd some 1 or two days earlyer. label and time depend on the hardware / software of the copy-station remember: in the early days all flopy where "handmade" by the copy-station (human must put a flopy manual in / and out - people sticking paper-labels on the floppy) it depend on the software of the copy-station how the dates / time of the file locks - usual a copy station don't copy a IMAGE to the flopy (it taks more time to write 1.44MB then only the files ~750kb) Long speak, short sense: lable can be set or not Date can be (or not) the same as cd i suggest lable: MDL_BOOT DATE / Time : exact the same as CD by this way everybody can see that it is homebrew
I will check that out in a bit. I'm glad I was able to lead you in the right direction to the OPK. Did you compare it to the one I gave you?
great, thx 07739BFC442A9013253D35948FF069F73B6D0EC6 *en_win95a_osr1.0_OPK_boot_for_cd-rom_3.5'HD.img i checked the img binary - img is not fragmented - the 3 Timestamps of each file have the expected value - the timestamp's for the lable are also valid - the free cd space is filled with the correct bit - no file artefacts from use (Tmp files etc inside the FAT root table - FAT12 structure is also valid (as expexted) I do not see anything which let me think that it is not valid it seems to be a orginal file from Windows 95 OSR1 OPK iso
What program do you use to check all that? I didn't check that deep as vanelle did but at first look, yours also seems to be untouched, the difference seems to be having a label, 3 extra files (format.com, oemsetup.bin, oemsetup.exe), all files dated 24/8/2016,11:11 which should be from OSR2, and some files having different sizes because they're newer. config.sys doesn't have LASTDRIVE=Z and drvcopy.inf has a new entry [OEMInfo.copy]. It probably came from a Win95 OSR2 OPK iso.
That's probably too much for me to handle... It took me a lot just to understand how to convert the Volume Serial Number to time/date and vice-versa, and in the end I didn't need it at all...
Hi Friends Just some hints. Are these isos good?
