I have important stuff on the laptop like bitcoin private keys and i dont want some company to see it. Is it really that hard to do it my self?
@madmujk3 1. Your emmc could very well be fine(although I seriously doubt that), it could just be your windows that's borked and the laptop just doesn't see anything bootable. In which case you could use a live distro to boot from a USB and possibly view the entirety of the content on that emmc. While booted in a live operating system, you could use something like Victoria, HDSentinel, etc. to check the health of your emmc. 2. The emmc is likely "worn", in which case everything on it is likely subject of damage. So even if you COULD recover stuff from it, there's no guarantee it will be 100% identical to its original state. 3. As mentioned above, don't use a low budget device(that also seems to have other problems) as your only data backup. Put the stuff on an external hdd or two of them even, use a cloud service if you feel like it.
@madmujk3 Absolutely. Listen, If you want help we can help you but were not around waiting for feedback every 6 hours or so. You can boot ArchBang, that is not gonna do anything harmfull. Then open filemanager and see if you find your eMMC partition. If you can read data from eMMC you can copy them over to an empty usb stick. Try that and post back feedback/questions. I'll be waiting...
You can use Hiren's BootCD or Sergei Strelec as a live os for the looking around part. After that, for testing, Sergei Strelec includes the tools I mentioned if you want to test your emmc. That won't inherently damage the memory as long as you only perform read tests. Read test by itself is not 100% conclusive as reads can be ok but writes can be problematic, but it will give you a semi-accurate picture of the emmc condition.
I just got my new screen and the tutorial i saw first on youtube didnt work. Since i dont have a computer now that works, can i create a bootble usb with my android phone and use sergei strelec or archbang with that usb?
