Restore discs sometimes check pc id inside bios and if its wrong they wont allow a restore, 2 reasons, stops multiple unauthorised installs and also boot up failiure because of incorrect drivers etc.
Model munbers mean nothing your pc model may cover a range which have different components inside, maybe someone changed or upgraded it, if its shop bought take the discs back and get the correct ones,if you bought it used it may have totally different insides to what it was when new.

Find out the code it wants and put it in the DMI of bios..

other than that, make your own restore disk. There is no HP specific programs on it most likely..

    I would make my own...:D:D

Use the DMI boot cd in the stickies. You may need to change the DMI string to match the OEMBIOS files on your restore disk.

HP and Compaq generally use one of these strings:

    Hewlett-Packard
    HP Pavilion
    Compaq

i think you still don't understand the function of the tool. but to cut things short, yes it should work. furthermore compaq is now under HP :)

no worries! it's ok, you can explore the capabilities of the DMI tool later. right now, troubleshooting your problem should be the priority
