You need to input the model number, not the SLP string. There is a place for it in the dmi area. When you boot to the tattoo disc, hit '4' to escape to dos..Type dmi and hit enter at the prompt. You can now input your own information. There is an area for manufacturer serial number, but I think you just need the model number in one of the manufacturer areas.

It may be easier just to take a Windows XP retail of your choice, just add the serial to the .SIF file, add the OEMBIOS files to the I386 folder, and use it for repair installs or reinstall. If you do not instruct the .SIF to unattended, the serial will be input and you will have all repair options available..

Thanks 911medic for that info well i tried it and i hit the 4 and it takes me to
a mesage that says (to get help, type help and press enter) so i type in help and press enter then it says (bad command or file name). I am trying it over and over again. You think i may need to make another iso disc?

Well 911 medic after trying it and trying i was able this time to press 4 and it gave me a list of things that i could change, i type in my serial number in the manufacturer list where it said serial number, then i hit enter and restated the computer and tried my restore disc still saying the same message so i put the iso disc in again and pressed the number 1 key twice and i see my serial number in there, so can you please further instruct me

Looks like it may be easier to build a new clean CD without all the extra crap HP likes to throw on them as you would have to know what model the disk is wanting, etc. It may be looking for other specific data as well.

You need to find a Windows XP Pro SP3 retail ISO download and use the directions I gave in the sticky thread on how to make a OEM SLP XP Pro disk.

Download the OEMBIOS files that match the string you had the DMI editor to input.

Yep..I would have gone that direction from the beginning...

I have not understood from the beginning why the trying to use the "restore disk". They could still add that crap to the disk..I dont know why though...

The System Locked Cds are a crapshoot at best..always were...

1st thing to do is locate a clean Windows XP Pro SP3 ISO or CD.

2nd question; I'm not sure where you are coming from.

Yes you can make them for any OEM machine as long as OEMBIOS are available for them.

If you meant making the disk on any machine or OS, yes you can make them on any machine that has a cd burner and software to burn the finished ISO image

The I386 folder is on the XP ISO you downloaded. You will need PowerISO (ISO editor) to open the download and replace files inside the I386 folder of the CD and save changes.

I finally understand what you guys are telling me to do, i put another disc in my computer and look at the files on it and happen to see 1386 folder that you have been speaking about but now i need the right iso file to go further. so basically if i open the 1386 folder of the window xp pro sp3 file and put the CRC32=CD4E1902 in it and i will be ready right?
