System recovery images only restore to the hardware they are meant for. Wouldn't it be better to fetch the original XP Setup disk(s) that install anywhere?
Good morning, yes, but there is no way to modify files or add a new line to vmware. I want to try them. so many versions manage to crack them and all appear in vmware
You would have to modify the DMI string(s) it checks for to be like in the original Compaq system. As I'm not a VMWare user, I can't help with that.
The restore process checks for certain DMI/SMBIOS strings it expects the intended target platform to have. There are only two possibilities: 1 - patch the checks out of the Setup routine, or, 2 - have the VM present the correct strings. The actual Virtualizer software you use is irrelevant.
I'm a bit clueless about this but how do I get the vm to present the correct strings? Also, how do I correct the checks from the installation routine?
You should definitely ask @pantagruel - he has far more knowledge and experience than me and you combined.
It's relevant indeed. PCEM or alike do a complete emulation of a definite HW, BIOS included. So if there is a CPQ profile available, the recovery CDs may work w/o any further modification
try hard disk ide this messenger How can I modify this message or change something in the hard disk files?
Is that in VMware? My regular XP VM uses an IDE hard disk too, I think it's the default for XP, so I'm not sure that's the problem here. Maybe failing the Compaq hardware check?
Good morning, yes, that's what you said that the hardware check failed, but in message #15 it tells me that the hardware check is not compatible, so that's what I'd like to bypass somehow, I don't know how.
