So it seems that pirated versions of Windows 7 can still get the free upgrade to 10, but it will be non-genuine and MS could hit you with nag screens at any time if they chose. I used the MTK, so that's the boat I am in.

But then I read about activating Windows 7 by modifying your BIOS SLIC table to trick it into thinking your machine is an OEM. If you do it that way, will you be able to get a genuine 10?

wait till its out, let the rest of the world see what happens and then you will be in a better position to make a decision. Nobody can answer these questions until Windows 10 is actually out with its final code.

I'm wondering if the reason that they have been hitting Windows 7 with DMCA takedown requests is because it is hard for them to determine who is legit and who is not. I guess that only time will tell.

I still use Windows 7 and from what I have seen from Windows 10 I will continue to use Windows 7.

But I think that even in the best preparation for Windows 10 it is still up in the air. I know a few people that are trying a few different ways to get their Windows 10 upgrade for free and still be genuine. Only time will really tell as of now.
