I saw this when it mentioned quite a while ago. if you must use a Debian based distro, you can use Mint, Open Suse, etc.

I know I'm a bit behind the times on this, but spyware on Ubuntu is shocking. I use Mint by the way. :D

Well, Richard Stallman has got a non-standard definition of spyware. Most people probably wouldn't call Ubuntu's search function spyware for it using normal ad-distribution techniques. I've yet to see a browser disabling ads and related tracking technologies by default.

Open Suse is a Slackware variant w/ ties to RHEL. Anyways, why not use Debian itself?

Which doesn't help too much since it comes with tons of closed-source software anyways :p
But in regards to the Ubuntu spyware, I assume it doesn't come with it. You could also install the Debian Edition of Mint.
