I saw this when it mentioned quite a while ago. if you must use a Debian based distro, you can use Mint, Open Suse, etc.
Well, Richard Stallman has got a non-standard definition of spyware. Most people probably wouldn't call Ubuntu's search function spyware for it using normal ad-distribution techniques. I've yet to see a browser disabling ads and related tracking technologies by default. Open Suse is a Slackware variant w/ ties to RHEL. Anyways, why not use Debian itself?
Which doesn't help too much since it comes with tons of closed-source software anyways But in regards to the Ubuntu spyware, I assume it doesn't come with it. You could also install the Debian Edition of Mint.
