    That's not the RTM version.

**Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 8 Release Preview can be installed ONLY on computers that are running Windows 8 Release Preview.**

Maybe you should better read: RSAT for Windows 8 RP

    RP stand for Release Preview!

But the date published is 9/7/2012. It's more likely that they forgot to update the title. The same thing has happened for other Microsoft downloads before (WAIK, etc).

Well... lets end the confusion ;)

    See the first post:
At first, he posted it as RSAT for Windows 8 RTM.

You can install the Release Preview RSAT on RTM using the following method:

    Using an Admin command prompt:

    expand -F:* Windows6.2-KB2693643-x64.msu C:\temp\RSAT
    cd c:\temp\RSAT
    pkgmgr /n:Windows6.2-KB2693643-x64.XML

Wait until Package Manager disappears from Task Manager running processes.
    Reboot.

Not required any more, the new release of the RP (9/7/12) installed on my W8x86 VM without it. I'm thinking all they did was flip that bit in the re-release. If anyone has the old copy of the file and cares to Hex compare we will know for sure.

the bits are dated 27-7-2012 and inside the xml the following is shown: cessorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" version="6.2.9200.16384"

Looks like these are indeed the rsat tools for RTM, not RP.

Links are back up, no longer says RP. Will update thread title tomorrow or next day upon confirmation of RTM. Likely all they did was make it no longer install on RP, but I will defer to anyone's hex compare.

What I've got now (the interim RP 9200 version from those same links a few days ago) is working just fine so I'll wait for the results of your confirmation before ripping out and replacing it.

Interesting. Looking at the x64 version RTM/9200. Compared to the RP/9200 released a few days ago.

The download file is slightly larger. Contained in it, all the files are datestamped the morning of 12-Sep-2012 except for Windows6.2-KB2693643-x64.cab which has the same datestamp as the previous one, 27-July-2012 20:47.

Not sure yet what the difference is or if uninstall and reinstall is necessary.
