Comodo Internet Security has a feature called containment which I believe can be considered an alternative to Sandboxie.
I also remember that Kasperky Internet Security had a similar feature.

There two cases where you'd want to sandbox a new app.
    (1) You suspect it might contain malware.
    (2) You want to evaluate it.

In the second case only, you don't need a sandbox, you can just use System Restore.
So you first create a SR point, then you install the app and test it.
If you don't like it, you first uninstall it and then restore the system to eliminate any left over changes to it.

Yes , but what to do if the software you are testing needs a reboot , before you can use it.............??

    Options:
    1. Use a Virtual Machine
    2. Use a Real Machine. Make a system image prior testing, restore image after testing. All test software will be gone.

Then what do you think about Acronis Try&Decide ??
T&D is my only reason for installing Acronis 2018 . Backup/restore is done by the boot-CD of Acronis en Macrium.
If I can find a solid alternative for T&D I will uninstall Acronis completely !!

ReHIPS is a sandbox + Application Control (AC).

So when you run an application the AC will generate a prompt ( or not depending of the mode you chose) asking you what to do about the app (block, isolate, run non-isolated), if you select "isolated" you will have a quick configuration window, then once done the apps will be run by default in a virtual desktop (which is made from a hardened user profile).

This hardened user profile is called Isolated Environment (IE) and is permanent (unless you decide to delete it manually) so it will survive reboots.

Try & Decide isn't sandbox, it is a snapshot feature like Rollback RX.

It will do the job, just like every other app mentioned here. Now, I've heard of a couple of people who had problems with T&D, but some people will always have problems with everything.

From a brief investigation I did a little while ago, I reached the preliminary conclusion that first choices among free tools were Sandboxie for sandboxing an app and Toolwiz Time Freeze for making/restoring snapshot of entire system.

I prefer Shadow Defender than Toolwiz TF, more security-oriented.

A real snapshot program is Rollback RX , no contenders, creates and restores a snapshot in less than a minute.

Shadow Defender is not free, so it's not directly comparable to Toolwiz TF which is freeware (I did mention "free tools" in my previous post.

It doesn't matter whether SD is not free or @UmbraEmsi did not mention it. His comment is valid for the sake of information/education.
    SD for the win!

Sure, i just told you the alternative i found to be the best.
If the fact that is paid program is a concern, SD is participating in so many giveaways that getting it for free isn't hard task. Just google "Shadow Defender giveaway" regularly and you may get it.
