    vfsmrx service

The vfsmrx service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

The service does not display in Computer Management console.
It is registered in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\vfsmrx (and also ControlSet001, ControlSet002 etc).
The display name is vfsmrx, group Network, image path \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\vfsmrx.sys, start 3.

The file vfsmrx.sys does not exist anywhere on any of the affected servers,
Deleting registry keys has no effect, the service re-appears after a reboot.
Disabling the service by setting Start to 4 in the registry stops the error messages but this is only fixing the symptoms, not the problem.

We can't find any information on vfsmrx and are concerned this is malware.
Machines have been scanned with a number of programmes, Trend, Sophos, Bitdefender, McAfee, Symantec and Malwarebytes but nothing identified.
Hijackthis does not find anything untoward.

Not all servers are affected but the problem is gradually spreading. We have now seen it on six servers in three different domains.

Does anyone know what vfsmrx is?
