I have a Dell studio 1555(Intel Core2 Duo T660&3GB ram) running with Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition x64 (build no 9600).
Recently my laptop display got broken so i tried to use an external monitor as my primary display. At first there wasn't any output So i disconnected the laptop display from the motherboard and voila output was back on.
My problem is that the native resolution of my Samsung Syncmaster 733nw is 1440x900 and windows isn't detecting any of the widescreen resolution at first so i edited registry values of Graphics Card(AMD Radeon Hd 4570 512 MB) and manually added 1440x900 and 1366x768 .Then windows showed these resolution values in their display menu but applying 1440x900 won't give the right result and monitor will give the error message saying "Not optimum mode,Recommended Mode:1440x900". The other added value 1366x768 is working decent enough(vertically stretched little).
When I gave 1440x900 resolution to the windows Monitor Information dialogue says "74.9KHZ 60Hz NN 1600x1200"
and when it was 1366x768 it gave "47.6KHz 60Hz PN 1280x768"
What should i do to get the optimum resolution ? Please Help 1440x900 No1JPG.JPG 1440x900 No1JPG.JPG

Hi guys my problem got solved(didn't really know how). After doing so many things windows and amd
catalyst aren't detecting my monitor so as a last refuge installed these windows 8.1 updates
    Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64
    Windows8.1-KB2932046-x64
    Windows8.1-KB2934018-x64
    Windows8.1-KB2937592-x64
    Windows8.1-KB2938439-x64
    Windows8.1-KB2959977-x64
    clearcompressionflag
and tada windows detected my SyncMaster 733nw monitor but still the worries didn't end
applying 1440x900 didn't gave any errors from the monitor but it wasn't fullscreen So i tried the utility named
Powerstrip and gave the same resolution and refresh rate as 75hz and there it is.Thanks to you guys also :) :)
