So I am attempting to install my KMS key for server 2012 R2 however it seems to dislike the key. So I am assuming just like when we installed KMS keys for server 2012 on our 2008 R2 box we had to install an update to the server before it would work. Does anyone know where I can find this?
Yes, KMS Host Key. I need to update the KMS Host Key on my existing KMS (Server 2008 R2) to support Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2. Last time I updated my KMS Host Key for Server 2012 I had to install a hotfix to my Server 2008 R2 box to support the new KMS Host Key. I am assuming an update now exist for Server 2012 R2.
I have not seen any hotfixes to upgrade older KMS hosts. I presume at present HOST keys dependent on KMS_A _B or _C class have to be entered either on Windows 8.1 or Server 2012 R2.
I'm assuming like you mentioned that you will need a update to Server 2012 or 2008 R2 in order to activate the KMS host key on those OS's. If you run a 2012 R2 KMS server you might not need to but I am unsure as I have not testing this. I do know that with 2012 R2 and 8.1 the KMS version is upgraded so a patch will probably be released sometime around GA...though I wish it was earlier.
So I managed to sort this out. No patch is out yet for Server 2008 R2. I decided to just build out a Server 2012 R2 Core Box and use it as a stand alone KMS server. I am now able to activate all versions of server up to 2012 R2 and all versions of Windows up to 8.1. Pretty cool stuff!
