Hi, I have a question about this hotfix. It resolves a deadlock on server os according to the kb article but microsoft update catalogue has it for both windows 7 and server os: http:/ /support.microsoft.com/kb/2878378 ... Should I use it on windows 7? Thanks for the answer (couldn't put the links in) ps: sorry i wanted to put this in hotfix repository post... MP
Hello MrMagic, no I'd just like to prevent these problems from happening and try to maintain an enterprise level supported win7. Win7 doenst have opsmgr but still deadlocks can be introduced. I see now this update was superseded, even though it is not satisfying to have these differences between kb articles and catalogue files.
I live by the rule "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" Up to you, install it if you like, but personally I don't see the point in putting a band-aid on a person with no injury just in case they cut themselves at some point
Okay, i usually do not apply many hotfixes (namely I do 2775511 & 2532445). 2775511, enterprise hotfix rollup, as Microsoft states: "We recommend that you apply this hotfix rollup as part of your regular maintenance routine and build processes for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 computers. (...) After you install the hotfix rollup, the performance of the computers may be improved. After applying this Microsoft recommends 3 more hotfixes to apply to solve regression issues and such, where the abovementioned 2878378 is the last one (unfortunately I haven't checked advapi.dll version, but I didn't think it would have helped). And I don't know whether to apply it to clients or not. There is also a hotfix not in GDR that you can't just ignore, 2532445. If you use applocker like I do, you could not like the idea to circumvent it as described here: http:/ /blog.didierstevens.com/2011/01/25/circumventing-srp-and-applocker-to-create-a-new-process-by-design/ which makes me ask the next question: shall I apply 2894252.
