Hi to all the MDL members i am new to this forum and here goes my doubt.. I have a dell laptop(inspiron 15r) with 4 gb ram and with windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit it recognises only 2.99 gb as usable.I work more with the virtualization software like vmware etc so i need more ram and hence switched to 64 bit edition. But i am not comfortable with 64 bit . I have read in an article that using some kernel patching windows 7(build 7600) 32 bit can recognize more than 3 gb(between 3.5 to 3.9) Link: ww.pallab.net/2009/12/30/enable-more-than-4gb-memory-in-windows-vista-7 So should I go for this patch.I'm afraid if it will screw my laptop . Is it safe to install this patch?? I need your suggestion Mates...
It is safe... but not give u such blustering performance!!! Patching ur kernel with a old modified one isn't a good idea. Use 64 bit instead
If you aren't comfortable with x64, you should be even more uncomfortable using an unsupported hack method of enabling PAE, which although is possible with x86, had been disabled with x86 Windows because it can cause issues! PAE is enabled on (the now defunct) Server x86 because a Server is just that, it serves. Typically you don't run programs or anything else on a server, you run the bare essentials and little if no third party apps. Before some says 'but I' or 'I know someone', 'I read somewhere', or 'there are plenty of people', I said the typical use of Server, that is, what Server is meant for! not what people try and do with Windows Server!
I may be a noob to ask this question but why microsoft allows enabling PAE through bcedit, is it for any good reasons
Only enabling PAE don't do the trick . BTW, in XP PAE is enabled automatically if ur system has 1 GB or more RAM installed!!
You can install it, but it won't be very useful. I do suggest that you use a x64 system, which is not that different than a x86 one.
