TO DO MANUALLY * Click Start * Click Run * enter "RegEdit" * Press Enter * Go to: - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - CurrentControlSet - Control * Right-click "WaitToKillServiceTimeout * Change the default "12000" to "2000" (12000 = 12 Seconds)(2000 = 2 Seconds) * Close everything * Complete * If you find that is not enough time for programs to save before shut down .. increase 2000 ...
I never had a problem with slow shutdowns, but maybe this will help other people. Thanks for sharing anyway.
Guys I think it's just cause it deals with probably registy stuff that it's flagged. I use avira too and got flagged also but I think it's safe. Maybe not though...lol Look at iamnoobs manually way which might produce similar results for quicker shutdowns.
WOW how can you guys control the shutdown timing? It surprised me! Is it possible to make it 1 second?
@blackranger use .reg file that i've posted earlier..if u want to edit it..use notepad..change "wait to kill" values
What is being changed is the registry key which determines how long Windows waits for a program to shut down itself before it terminates it anyway. When shutting down you probably have quite a bit of stuff in your system tray that you may forget about - internet security programs , email clients etc. You can force Windows to terminate them almost immediately BUT it is probably not advisable to do so. Choose shut down and walk away - who really gives a toss if your system takes 1, 5, 30 seconds or even 2 minutes - at least all your programs are given the opportunity to exit gracefully and not being shut down forcibly while trying to - say - write critical configuration files for example - why do you think M$ set the value so high in the first place - because they enjoy their OS being ridiculed for being slow ?
I had some problems with shutdown time and i found the issue. Its about the pagefile. Its was disabled in my case. So I enable the pagefile and make it to be deleted everytime I restart or shutdown the system. The restart/shutdown time was about 1 minute. Now it takes about 8 seconds.
Hi please respect someone's work no matter if they are useful or at least he works or contributes to the MDL Forum Best Regards NST_Adventure
Brother @wtarkan i have a query . are both domain sordum.org & sordum.net yours. i have seen a lot of difference between these domains . i mostly use tools posted on both domains.
Fastest way to shut windows 7 ....keep the power button pressed in ... lol on a serious note though it depends what you have running in the background when you shut your system down.. bedside's who care's just hit the power button and walk away. let it do it's thing and shut off.
