It only actually works if you run it from the start screen, if you run it from the desktop it crashes on sign-in.

How is it most other software is flawless on win8 but skype fails miserably. Oh wait, that's because skype devs can't code

 

I don't use skype, so I didn't install it, but I wonder if the Facebook video chat client (skype subset) works.

 

Skype was crashing for me also, but I was finally able to get it to work. Basically I removed all references to Skype from ProgramFiles, ProgramData and Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming and installing the latest Skype version (5.5.0.117). You need to launch Skype from the new Start menu (with the Metro style interface).

Skype Video Call is working fine for me on version 5.5 and 5.6

Not yet.

 

It starts on boot only if you tick the "Start Skype when I start Windows" option.
