Compaq C502US Phoenix bios has SLIC 1.0 in the bootblock. When I run Phoenixtool, it selects SSV2, but then aborts with error "Unable to reintegrate BIOSCOD1.ROM." I ran Phoenixtool again and selected Dynamic, which ran successfully. Not entirely sure what to do now. Did Phoenixtool replace the SLIC in the bootblock? Do I need to flash from DOS and use the switch to replace the bootblock? Or is there something that I should try to get Phoenixtool to successfully use SSV2? Original bios & RW Everything report, and modded (dynamic) bios are here sendspace.com/file/iwab13 Thanks for any help or advice!
Thanks Tito; I did successfully run Phoenixtool with Dynamic, but after flashing from DOS (ph161700 /x /FORCE /O /C /S) I'm not activated. Do I need to flash the bootblock? Is that advisable, or too risky? I just add "/BBL"?
Phoenixtool told me when I loaded the original bios. I guess it's actually SLIC 2.0, that's the one for Vista, right? And I'm trying to replace it with SLIC 2.1 for Win7
Sorry about making this confusing by mistakenly calling it "SLIC 1.0". The bios definitely came from Compaq with SLIC 2.0 for Vista, and Phoenixtool says that it's located in the bootblock.
If that's the case, using the Dynamic method and flashing the bootblock should work. What does the SLIC Toolkit show?
Well, I eventually found an already-modded bios in the "bios SLIC mod requests" thread (posted by thanh2h). It's got SLIC 2.1 in an ACPI table, so I was able to flash it without touching the bootblock, and now I'm activated. Thanks everyone.
