I assigned a drive to it with diskmgmt.msc and it took forever to quick format. Copying files is painfuly slow (999kb/s). It is in ACHI mode in the BIOS. I installed this 1.5TB seagate in an older enclosure, could that be the problem?

I'd say it was the enclosure - I bought an Antec enclosure which won't even register as an Esata - Tried another drive enclosure and it worked fine.

You were right , I put it in a different case and it works fine. Too bad the good case doesn't have a fan, oh well.

    Thanks

I can use the Antec as a USB but I think Antec brand is overrated junk now.
