    This has to do with Windows activation - why is this running when my Windows copy is valid??
    Was this added after recent KB update?
    I see "Software Protection" and "SPP Notification Service" running too?

    Did you activate Windows? You may have a valid installation, but you still have to activate it somehow.

    slui.exe handles the legitimacy of the Windows license and provides a reminder to activate Windows. The file is not needed for the OS to work properly on an ongoing basis.

    If you really do not like slui.exe, here is a vbs script that kills it. Though you don't need it, sppsvc/slui runs at odd times even when you are activated.

    KungFuSlui.vbs

    Code:
    strComputer = "."
    Set objSWbemServices = GetObject("winmgmts:" & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!" & "\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2")
    Set objEventSource = objSWbemServices.ExecNotificationQuery( "SELECT * FROM __InstanceCreationEvent WITHIN 1 WHERE TargetInstance ISA 'Win32_Process' AND TargetInstance.Name = 'slui.exe'")
    Set objEventObject = objEventSource.NextEvent()
    set jshell = createobject("WScript.Shell")
    jshell.Run "taskkill /f /im slui.exe",0,true
    jshell.Run "KungFuSlui.vbs",0,false
