You are able to activate today if you have some genuine Product Key...

There is no real activation method working for the Windows 8.1 since Microsoft has a new KMS response out of their VL products...

I've done the upgrade from 8 Enterprise to 8.1 it's really just a simple command line entry. As far as KMS goes the update to KMS 6 has been out a few days...

If you had a legal 8 or 8.1 key, you could activate on RTM leak/MSDN. I have activated 8.1 with 8 pro keys though I have technet 8.1 keys too.
What would interest me more is backing up/restoring activation for 8.1 and enterprise KMS activation.
Backing up/restoring is more important since technet has retired subscriptions going forward.

 

I have a new HP ENVY with Windows 8 on it and I was reading that on Oct 17, MS will allow you to upgrade to 8.1 for free as long as Win 8 came with your PC. It says that the 8.1 will be available through the Windows Update feature, so I am assuming when its Oct 17 I can just click on Windows Update and it will install 8.1 on my HP laptop.... for free of course.....

 

I just use the phone activation method from the KMSPico activator. When a list of keys shows out, choose the first key end with "BKH3H", then install Skype on your iPhone/Samsung. Dial to UK +448000188354 toll free system. I was just successfully activated my Windows 8.1 Pro at last night.

Same thing with Office 2013, since the activator not working in Windows 8.1. So I have to activate my Office 2013 by phone. I was just found a working Office 2013 key end with "K2CDH". Activated by dialing to UK +448000188354 toll free system.

 

I did a fresh install of Win 8.1 yesterday.. totally fresh clear SSD.. i used the ei.cfg so i didnt need to use an install key.. then after the first boot windows asked for the serial.. i used my upgrade key and it worked and activated no issues at all.

 

no it will be available through the window store not win update,and it will be free if you upgraded to win 8 as well,not just if win 8 came with your machine,it's free for everyone with win 8.

I think the real question here and possibly what the original poster meant is a way to activate and install win8.1 with our windows 8 keys - ie will we be able to go onto Microsofts site and "upgrade" our windows 8 license keys to receive legitimate win 8.1 keys?

 

Nobody knows that information as of now. You have to wait for 2 more days to witness the process.

 

Windows 8 keys can activate a clean install of Win 8.1. Why would you need to upgrade the license key (if there is even such a thing), that makes no sense. I have activated Win 8.1 clean installs on many pc's with valid Win 8 dreamspark, upgrade, retail keys.
