I did a fresh install about a month ago, so most updates report 8/2/17 or 9/2/17. I installed basically Vista7SlicLdr2.4.8 that I had from a while back, for activation. I was careful and carefree enough, to not install KB971033 as it kills the above process, I read online, but put windows updates to full auto. All were fine, until yesterday. Out of the blue, Windows refused to activate and began nagging me. I did what every "novice" man would do and reinstalled Vista7SlicLdr2.4.8, a couple of times, with no success. I upped the game a bit and looked at the control panel, KB971033 had made its appearance once more. I uninstalled it and reported back to my "novice" position and reinstalled a couple more times Vista7SlicLdr2.4.8 with still no success. Mind you that all my drives are gbt, you know, the ones with the "globally unique identifier"? At this point I became somewhat uninterested, and thought to myself, "The nagging most prominently begins at start up, and since I rarely close the pc, If I keep the nagging minimized would it bother me? Probably not . I'll take my chances. Does the black background? Not. So, leave it be? But then I became worried, what if they up the game also, what functionality out of the already semi impaired programs would I lose? So I uninstalled randomly, a couple more KBs, just out of frustration. Obviously, that, did not help. I do not know how does this affect my system, and do not care so much as to "will I be able to run ETKA from Linux?" But given my curious nature, I found this site again and began reading the vast bibliography that is present. I run as instructed MGADIAG, so what? to inform me that it's not activated? And found that WHDownloader is basically, I mean, come on people, people on my level do just fine, just why you've done it so hard to use? Then I uninstalled the telemetry KBs. Most of them I believe, because I was too tired to read all the thread... And then I stumbled, to Rearm Wizard! So I installed Rearm Wizard, and it worked! I basically run once again Vista7SlicLdr2.4.8 just to be square with my "novice" self. Now update tells me to update telemetry KBs once again, so, its activated? I mean, the whole point of activation, is to receive updates to correct the semi impaired programs, and plug security holes that we're not even aware of?! Also, I stood before a multi-billion company and won? I'm not that naive. I believe the boys up there, just got bored.
Next time use a proper activation (daz' windows loader, modified bios or kms (in case of Pro (on GPT systems) or Enterprise) and you never have to care about the WAT update, or any other Never heard about vista7slic...
Tried Daz's solution also, but it required mbr hard disks. I think win 7 64 demanded gbt hard disk in order to install. Win 7 Ultimate, present. Modified bios are I dare to believe are not available for GA-Z170-HD3P, and not actually out of my league, but not of enough value. Om dhar 2009 reads the picture on computer>properties. Powar! Kms are not a part of my knowledge. If windows do not think they gain enough just from the things (s**t) I do, and screw me up bad, I reckon that Linux will be the future with all its problems.
I don't know, I've hit a brick wall before and just bought the license and moved on. Life is to short to sweat the small stuff.
