When you mean crashes, do you mean it does not login, or it crashes trillian? I have trillian running on 8.1 and when i enable skype it does not crash but it does not start skype medium.
Trillian.exe itself doesn't crash, if you will try to login to Skype for example via Trillian's "Accounts" settings, then the Skype icon will turn blue as expected, but after a while it will disconnect and turn gray again. No error message will be thrown. But if you will check \Control Panel\Action Center\Maintenance\Display Reliability History, you will notice crashes reports from Skypekit.exe...
Thats what I am having. I will check my crash reports and send it to Kevin (kwk) and Scott (smw) and see if they can see anything. I dont use skype from Trillian but still good to know so they can fix it.
Just talked to Kevin, he said he knows about the issue and says for right now as a temp fix just put skypekit in Windows 7 compt. mode and that should work for now till they can find a fix. He said it does not like Windows 8.1 that well LOL
LOL, cute, no Kevin and Scott are the creators and 2 main dev's of Trillian. Being a Pro member I have givin them a few bugs in Trillian and talked to them about future things to put in Trillian
Just read that trillian does not use the API, they use that skypekit which is different but same. Still MS has stopped supporting it but has yet said they will cut it off. Since it is only not working in 8.1, it seems it is just a version issue. Seems like the fix you have posted above is the only work aroudn with it (BTW you can put it in Windows 8 compt. mode as well). The skypekit version that they are providing for this in their forums is from 5.2.
blah please forgive me for my egregious lack of tech savyness. i dled the new skype kit, replace it in the trillian plug ins folder - however, i dont know how to set my skype/trillian to windows 7 mode. is there anyway you could help me out with this? this problem has been bugging me for agessss. thanks so much again, sorry for being an idiot..
give me a half hour to 45 minutes and i'll upload the package i created. it has trillian, the skypekit, a couple of skins, a couple of plugins, and step by step instructions for setting compatibility mode for both trillian.exe and skypekit.exe. ps yes still working like a charm

There is nothing to forgive... ) Right click on desired EXE (on Trillian.exe AND then on SkypeKit.exe), Select properties from content dropdown menu, Select Compatibility tab, check Run in compatibility mode box and select Windows 7 from dropdown list. I repeat: It HAS TO be done for BOTH EXE's.
