Some time ago- I'm talking about a year or so - I bought an Nvidia 8800 GT GPU in order to upgrade my old card . Little did I know there was an issue with my mainboard- which runs on a Via chipset - and this particular card. To be precise : the mainboard -or rather the VIA chipset - is incompatible with PCI-e 2.0 Nvidia cards of the 8800 series ( oddly enough this is ONLY with the 8800 GT, for instance the 8800 GTS works fine ) . When the card is installed the system doesn't post . There was an entire topic opened at 3dguru and other forums in effect telling folks the only way to solve this was to flash the Bios of the card - from 2.0 to 1.1 - which requires you to install the card on another mainboard ,which does recognize it and then flash it . I was wondering if anyone actually ever found a way to solve this which didn't require such course of action . There wasn't any fix made available by either the mainboard manufactorer ( MSI) nor by VIA or Nvidia - all of them pointed to eachother to solve it.
