Firefox keeps sending me several pop ups daily to update to 47, which I do not want.

Is there a way to stop these pop ups?

(As I know from experience that wel-meaning forists will come up with unwanted suggestions: Please, answers to MY question.... thank you all)

Even though that is ticked and has been for years, it will now update anyway.

Must have taken lessons from Microsoft

38.8 ESR is forced to 45.20 ESR, can't stop it.

Using a portable version, no background service.

Noticed yesterday, suddenly the search option was the new stupid retarded Firefox way, then checked version and it had been updated in the background.

Wouldn't expect a portable version to auto update, using the normal installed version, I`ll go days/weeks without realising there is a new version until I see it posted somewhere, then manually update it

Or the ESR version, they're still in the 30s last I checked.

    @Palladin

I have not yet done what you suggest, but I fail to see the logic in it.

I'm quite familiar with what ESR is, hence I'm using it, but hacking release channel into something which updates "every 7 hours" should give me LESS updates makes NO sense.

As mentioned, UPDATES are turned off, yet the f****** still update.

I don't know where you got the "Updates every 7 hours" from.
There's no mention of hours in the original post anywhere.

The ESR versions updates every 7 version numbers, not hours.

The ESR releases from 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, will not update, but when FireFox releases Version 45 then the 38 ESR will update to Version 45. Version 45 ESR will not update until FireFox releases Version 52 ESR.

The Default Channel is nothing mysterious, and is documented in the link I posted above.

    default
: This channel is used when there is no channel information, for example if you build Firefox or Thunderbird yourself. There are no updates on this channel. This channel is frequently used by Linux distributions, given that they provide own updates through their respective package-management system

Ah, gotcha, default is a custom setting, not release channel.

Done it now and then hopefully I'll be left alone by FF, thanks again

7 hours was just an exaggeration to their insane quest to catch up with Chrome numbers. Why they don't they just skip a number or two or 20 instead, like Windoze did.
