    • What does mean "enhanced indexing"
    • "Performance" is a characteristic of your computer, and to change it, you need to change the computer components, such as using a better and faster processor.
Normally, crawling occurs within minutes of turning on your computer and when your computer is in sleep mode. It breeds in the background and very low priority.
Usually you will never notice it because it is happening with really low priority and at time when You don't do anything.
Only on very old and slow computers can you notice something for a short time, and only for a few minutes immediately after starting up.

If anyone uses that setting, I would like to know if it affects performance in any way.

Test and see if you notice that something is changing and then decide if you need it and if you can use it. It is up to you to decide and depends mainly on your needs and the features of your computer.
There is usually no need to use it.
You can make such a shortcut on your desktop so you can monitor how and when indexing takes place.
    Code:
    C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL srchadmin.dll

Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...

This was more of a problem in Vista than any subsequent OS. Back when Vista was released, it was (and still is) so laggy and hard drive intensive that one of the many tricks people used to try to fix some of the issues was to disable indexing.
Honestly this isn't really an issue anymore as the constant drive chugging only seemed to exist in Vista. This problem was solved more than a decade ago when Windows 7 came out, TBH.
