I have this strange behavior of the (Windows) Explorer.exe, which uses straight after I lock in with my M$-Live-Account into Windows-8.1, ~13% CPU-Load and randomly changes the Cores which get used up to 100%.

This behavior seems to be totally random and sometimes it can be fixed with a restart of the explorer.exe / Log-out / reset / PC turn off, but sometimes it takes 10 times to get rid of it.

Maintenance is not in progress when it happens and it seems not to come back, when you keep the system up and running, after it got "fixed".

I couldn't find any answers via google and wonder if it is normal, a Windows-8.1-Bug or maybe 3rd-Party-Software-related ?

    Process-Explorer doesn't show me more info's either.

It's unfortunately the same without OC.

For me it looks like that it got somewhere introduced with the RTM or maybe an update, as I didn't have the problem with the PreView or after upgrading Windows-8 with the WZOR-RTM, but it's present since I did a clean Windows-8.1-Install.

I use all the time the same kind of apps, but update them regularly.

It seems to be a problem which affects some, but not all users, as far I can tell after some google-research, but some have / had it under Windows-8 as well.

Some point towards the Metro-Search / Search-Index, other reckon that a Desktop-Icon caused an endless loop or say that a new M$-Account would help or deleting all Windows-8-Content from the SkyDrive or even cleaning the Windows-Temp-Folder.

The only strange thing I found was, that I had plenty SkyDrive-Folders with numbers in the Folder-Name under users\user-name\, but I already deleted them.

Maybe I should do another Clean-Install.

Yes, I do and quite a few other Stardock-Apps.

Thanks for the hint ! Will un-install all of them, except Start8 and have a look if it get's better.

I will report back, but I need some sleep first.

It looks like that one of the StarDock-Apps caused the problem.

Thanks a lot to everyone !

I have now only the following installed:

    - IconPackager 5
    - Start8
    - ThemeManager
    - WindowsBlinds 8

Un-installed all the following, if they were installed, as some are not for 8 / 8.1:

    - Decor8
    - DeskScapes 8
    - DesktopX
    - Fences 2
    - IconDeveloper
    - Keyboard Launchpad
    - ModernMix
    - SkinStudio 8
    - SoundPackager
    - Tiles
    - Tweak7
    - WindowsBlinds7
    - WindowFX 5

Maybe I should not extend my subscription in January.

    :)
