yes i got in the mail today a usb stick its the ms usb with 10 home on it. im backing up the usb to img file but I want to format it and stick pro iso on it.s there any way round there crazy write-protect they have on the usb stick thanks I would say a few others have this same problem
So you bought a valid copy of Windows 10 Home that Microsoft sold you and you want to format that same USB to upload Windows 10 Pro? Seriously, this like asking, 'How can I overwrite the DVD Microsoft gave me?" You're better off keeping it 'as is' and using your own USB, not the one Microsoft gave you. Now if by chance they shipped you the wrong copy (very rare, but it has happened), I would contact them. Hopefully, someone listens, and is willing to do an exchange (also very rare).
To keep the original USB thumbdrive, copy all files from the USB to a local folder on your hdd. If it contains an install.wim run these commands to offline upgrade to Pro: Open an elevated cmd: Code: dism.exe /Mount-WIM /WimFile:"x:\install.wim" /index:1 /MountDir:"y:\mount" dism.exe /image:y:\mount /Get-CurrentEdition dism.exe /image:y:\mount /Get-TargetEditions dism.exe /image:"y:\mount" /Set-Edition:Professional dism.exe /Unmount-wim /mountdir:"y:\mount" /commit For the next command you need to have the ADK installed imagex /flags "Professional" /info "x:\install.wim" 1 "Win 10 Pro" "Win 10 Pro" dism /Export-Image /SourceImageFile:"x:\install.wim" /SourceIndex:1 /DestinationImageFile:"x:\install.exported.wim" /Compress:max /checkintegrity Delete "x:\install.wim" and rename "x:\install.exported.wim" to "x:\install.wim" Now format another USB thumbdrive FAT32 and copy all files back to that USB drive.
ok first off I payed $5 for it. I got it off a site like ebay. but its trademe dot co dot nz I have legit copys of 10 pro but have no use for home. so im trying a way to format it and slap pro on the stick. as the dam thing is write-protected. all im asking is there away to get rid of the write-protected so I can reformate it. that's all im asking can it be done. the laptops do not have roms only usb ports.
Why did you buy an USB with any windows on it? You just could have bought an empty USB thumbdrive and downloaded an official Multiple Editions MSDN/PRO VLSC iso (or your "legit" copy of pro) and put that on the empty USB drive.
well it was listed and it was a ms windows 10 usb. I got it thinking I could formate then slap pro on it . it came with everything bar the key and for $5 I wouldn't complain why I got it. it says its a 16gb usb stick but it cant b formated
Does it matters ? The OP asked something, lets talk about that, which perhaps is an interesting question. No matter of what was written there or the cost.
I think everyone here is able to copy some files over a pendrive, I think the OP has a write protected Key. The question is how to remove the protection not how to copy some files.
If I had a ready answer I provided one. I didn't because I haven't. Providing no answer is surely a better behavior than providing an answer to a different question.
Resell it for half the current price of Home and make a huge profit. Take a small part of that profit and buy a more usable USB stick. You gotta ask yourself, why only $5 for this stick. The last time I got something at a price too good to true ... it was.
mainly all I was asking is how the hell can it b unlocked? not how much I payed for it. if u do goto that site look up bulk or box lot under computers dam you can even get cheap laptops it may just have blown fluro tube in lcd unless your not tech minded u wouldn't figer that sort of thing out. like last week I got a box with 14 12" laptops with 2gb and 160gb sata drives in each unit and have a atom 1.6ghz cpu. that only costed me $30 nz plus $10 postage
I think you need a specialized tool to play with flags set in to the FW. If it's write protected hardly something done at windows level can do something. Surely theese tools are available in to the wild (there were famous scam sellers on ebay who sold 1GB pendrives rewritten to look as 8GB pendrives), but personally I have no experience. I played with Compact Flash to change them from consumer to industrial but not with pendrives.
