The reason I want to backup is my Internet is limited and do not want to re-download 18GB. I use D drive as my default for all games to make backup & restore of my C system drive easier. My App directory is located in "D:\WindowsApps" and trying to backup "D:\WindowsApps\Microsoft.DallasBeta_1.2.4702.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe" results in "You require persmission from SYSTEM to make changes to this file - Try Again". Changing ownership to me does not help, it then says it needs my permission to copy a file - what crazy file permissions !
Hi simple dude right click on folder desired and search for Advanced permissions in there you can see that System is atual owner so you can change following all needed after change from System to you click ok and after return to properties of folder click on atual owner in case you of course click again in total control and see if now works
Tried that, but after closing and reopening file permissions it says "Unable to display current owner"
yep so try NSUDO who know works now well I haven't knowledge about UWP applications then I'm suspect to tell something related sorry dude
Is there any tool that can make this backup restore easy, because even Aomei Onekey Recovery trying to backup this directory in WinPE mode was also blocked (WinPE probably reads the same restrictions) So maybe I have to reboot with Linux backup tool. Ha ha ha Linux saving Microsoft again...
Maybe you can use macrium reflect you can use it for free the only limitation is only full backups I believe
Yes this reminds me of Acronis use to have an Linux bootable media and Acronis has directory/file backup - so much trouble just to bypass stupid Microsoft permissions
It takes 1 minute to make a bootable usb media with macrium reflect and 20 sec to boot into a windows pe enviroment but I understand that it's a hussle
Unless your games and Apps are stand alone I don't see the benefit of having them on another partition, If you need to reinstall windows from scratch then you need to reinstall the games and Apps it would be different if it was just downloads or data.
Problem is that I have a 240GB SSD drive partitioned into System & Data, also I do not want to make a backup image with games as I do not play them every day, but on the day I need them I do not want to re-download them or when restoring from windows image I just want the system restored not huge games. As far as I know putting the installed game back and installing it in the same directory just activates ths game again and no need to re-download everything. Many people use the same thing with steam games.
Yes but WinPE also abides by Microsoft permissions, which defeats it - Linux bootable medium the only way I see so far.
Looks like that some of the files in your directory of apps are either not there any more or corrupted chek the log for details if you want to
