    Hello all ,
    Has anyone got experience with file sharing in a live linux OS ?
    Regards.
    <edit>
    I have been using Scientific Linux 6.5 installed to HDD lately ;
    it is most stable , however , searching for 'fun' packages is not fun.
    .
    Thanks @SOCRATE_MMXII ,
    link to a link ...
    Says to use UnetBootIn "(Universal Netboot Installer) is a cross-platform utility that can create libve USB systems and can load a variety of system utilities or install various mainstream Linux distributions, such as Ubentu , Fedora , openSUSE , CentOS , Scientific Linux , Gentoo , Linux Mint , Arch Linux , Mandriva , MEPIS , Slackware , as well as FreeDOS , , FreeBSD , and NetBSD ."
    with persistence {delete the casper-rw file due to using the pre-made (see instructions) casper-rw partition instead , using GParted}
    for Debian & derivatives , such as Mint ;
    I am going to try Linux Mint Debian Edition 2 (LMDE2) , because it does not have systemd ,
    with Cinnamon as the desktop .
    ...
    The p2p software , Tixati has standalone versions for
    both M$ Wind & linux ; able to be run from a USB , separate from the DVD.
    Originally , I was really looking for live CD / DVD , so , I am going to try that first.

    Used the live environment of the DVD Linux Mint Debian edition 2 (64 bit) ;
    it does have Transmission pre-installed , but I have not tested it yet.
    .
    I am using it now !
    .
    Installed OpenVPN using the gui " Synaptics Package Manager " &
    the instructions here : https : / / www . frootvpn . com / guides / linuxdebian / 19 .
    .
    In the terminal window , the process got to "Initialization completed " ,
    however , the internet access did not work anymore.
    ..
    I am a bit stumped.

    I am able to use OpenVPN in the live DVD of LMDE 2 Cinnamon (64 bit):
    .
    1) installed via the gui "Synaptic Package manger" - [tt]OpenVPN , network-manger-openvpn , & network-manger-openvpn-gnome[/tt]
    (Cinnamon is a fork of Gnome) ;
    they seem to have 'installed' OK into the filesystem running in RAM.
    .
    2) followed instructions here : h y p e r text t r a n s f r e p r o to co l howto <D O T> praqma <D O T> net [slash] ubuntu [slash] vpn [slash] openvpn-access-server-client-on-ubuntu
    These instructions basically say to cut out & paste into external files the various <ca> etc from the {servicename}.ovpn file.
    However , my ovpn file did not have a tls - so I ignored that aspect of these instructions , and chose "Password" in the N-M window.
    ..
    Next is to test the pre-installed torrenter of LMDE 2 : Transmission ;
    and possibly the 'standalone' torrenter Taixati.
    ...

    The 'manual install for linux' Tixati did not "allow" me to choose where to put the D-L.
    .
    So , I used the live DVD Linux Mint 17.2 - LMDE 2 with Cinnamon - pre-installed "Transmission" last night , along with the OpenVPN that I installed to the live system (see above method) .
    It worked good overnight & all day.
    ..
    I tried TAILS ; it was too restrictive -- I could not "install" the OpenVPN package.
    ..
    The live linux "Knoppix full DVD" would probably also work .
    As well as "freepto" --
    it lists the packages pre-installed - 'Transmission' ,
    and more importantly 'OpenVPN' .
