Hi, I have a HP/Compaq TC1100 Tablet PC. The BIOS for this apparently has a whitelist, preventing it from booting if a wireless card that's not on the whitelist is installed ("104-Unsupported wireless device"). The earliest BIOS version was F.03, and the latest is F.0F, and, unfortunately, the whitelist "feature" is even in the original F.03 BIOS. I've been trying to get started modding the F.0F BIOS, but basically am at a dead end. I have the bios.wph file from the F.0F download, but, when I try to read it into Phoenix BIOS Editor (various versions), I get an "Invalid ROM length" error. I've also searched through the bios.wph file using a hex editor, and I haven't found any "familiar" PCIID/Vendor combinations (little-endian), so I don't know if the bios.wph is compressed or maybe partially compressed? [Note: there is some clear text, e.g., a Phoenix copyright string, etc.] I've been searching for the last couple of weeks, and haven't really found any info on working with the TC1100 BIOS. I had expected that, since the machine is fairly old (~2003 timeframe), BIOS would be easier to work with, but I guess that I was wrong ... If anyone has any ideas of how I can do this (edit the whitelist on the TC110), I'd be very grateful. Thanks, Jim
Alex, I downloaded that file, unrarred it, and tried to open it with Phoenix Bios Editor. I got a bunch of popup error messages ("An unsupported module class 'H' was found at offset...", etc., and then a "PCI routing table mismatch"), but it didn't give the "Invalid ROM length" and finally opened the BIOS. I think that I found some PCI vend/device codes in BIOSCOD1.ROM, and I can edit it with a hex editor, but am not sure what to do next? Thanks, Jim
Hi ! I tried all that to add my broadcom to the whitelist. It all looked good, but after flashing my tc1100 now is dead. I read some methods to boot a phoenix rescue disk from usb but non works, the disk is not booting up. Does anyone know exactly how to recover my bios / which hotkey to use ? HELP :-( Ender
Hi sebus, i read through that threads as well :-( My tc1100 doesnt beep at all, the additinal info there is that another key combo to get in recovery mode seems to be "all arrow keys" but that sadly does not work on my bricked tc1100 either :-( Any more help / things i can try ? Thx & Greetings, Ender
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, this is mostly for Googlers. To do crisis recovery on a tc1100, you need to use a USB floppy drive -- not a key -- and hold down "esc" and "tab" hardware keys on boot, instead of using a keyboard combination.
Hi all I have successfully mod white list of my tc1100 tablet. My bios now supports TP-LINK TL-WN 861 N wireless card instead of Intel wm3b2200bg and it is already has slic 2.1 table, so no problem with Windows 7 ultimate “oem” activation. TL-WN 861 N is not the best card for tc1100 - it is too big and I have to isolate it from motherboard and wifi card compartment cover but it is working and tc1100 boots normally.
Awesome. Has anyone tried this yet? I'm going in, but I wouldn't mind hearing some reassuring words... Thank you for the work and the kindness! m a r
Oh, I knew you were an expert. I'm just without a USB Floppy... So I'm thinking about waiting until it arrives -- but I'll probably do it after work tonight anyway. I'll report back here, too. m a r
Dear TTAV134, I have a HP TC1100 and have bought a intell 2200 wireless card for it. It gave the 104 error. I have search on the web for fixing the problem. Now i have flashed your BIOS (HP TC1100 Whitelist removed + SLIC2.1) to my TC1100 but now it doesend do enything. Your BIOS those not work. Are you working on the BIOS so that it works???? A have flashed the orginal BIOS back in recovary mode.
sorry for this incident, I'm glad you could repair. can you place alink on the method you've used. This mod is based on a version with SLIC2.1 i'v found on an other forum. 1-I have to check if this version was working before. I've not seen any feedback. 2- i will check again my hown mod to understand why it can brick the machine. note: fixed with second release regards
How i install the mod BIOS: I have downloaded the zip file. Unpacked the zip file to a USB pen drive. I connect the USB pen drive to the TC1100 From Windows i run the WinPhlash.exe application. Leaved everything default en clickt on "Flash Rom". The flashing begin and gives that it was succesful. The tablet shuts down and then does nothing only black screen. Did i do somthing Wrong?? I have succesfully recoverd my TC1100 thanks to "TC1100-BIOS-Upgrade-Failure-Crisis-Recovery": a) You must use a USB floppy drive. b) You must use the Crisis Recovery disk creator at the top of the "CRISIS RECOVERY #2" thread, the first image will boot your drive c) You must use the HP BIOS provided in the TC1100 download page 1) Create the image as above 2) Plug your USB floppy into the tc1100 3) Remove the battery and the AC adapter 4) Hold down the "esc" and "tab" hardware buttons on the tablet itself 5) Plug in the AC adapter while holding down those buttons. The drive will spin up twice. First is drive initialization, second is the beginning of the read process. After the second spins up, you may release the keys. The drive will stop after a while. Ignore your tablet. Once it emits a long beep, it'll reboot, and you'll be in happytown again. I have learned that if you you boot the tablet without the card and press f8 for windows xp menu. And than connect the card you can fully use it until you reboot the system. My card is a Intel 2200 b/g (not hp branded) and is only blocked with error 104 of the bios.
Thanks Dear TTAV134, Thanks i just flashed the new Bios. This time it worked. Thank you very mutch.
@baken37 great job, i've sent you a PM with a link to the new release.
