Hi all, So I just moved & I think I did something when I connected to a new ISP when it asked me if I wanted other computers to see my computer & since it wasn't my ISP, I said no. Now I can't get the network my website coder helped me set up working. It said Network Discovery was turned off on Win 10. I managed to find where it was & turned it on, but it's still not showing my Win 7 computer folder that was all set up & yes, allow is set to all of them. The Win 7 folder shows up fine. It shows my laptop (Win 10) folder, but not the Win 7 folder under my name, Michelle PC. Please help. Thanks
If you ping each computer (Widows 7 computer to Windows 10 computer and vice versa), do you get a response?
Oki, open command prompt (search "cmd" and open) and use your ip address from each computer. Enter in command window: ping "your ip address" Ip address you find in your network adapter that you use.
Assuming the IP I looked up is correct, both timed out. So the IP for the admin panel to the modem isn't the same as the IP to the computers, right? Thanks
That's your culprit. I can't say, i don't know you setup but if your computers can't see each other - no luck.
You can start with describing your setup. IP and mask on your computers, your LAN and how do you connect them. Normally, a switch (unmanaged) would not be the issue and you can use different ip segments as long as mask is wide enough. You described a modem, that would assume 1 or more bridges, again, i don't know your setup.
Change IP to... say 10.0.0.xxx/255 - see if that helps Your wifi router see's your computers, mac's are registrated, odd... Feel free to PM me if something is unclear
Thank you very much for your help. All of a sudden on my Win 7 machine that popup that shows up when you get a new modem asking if this is public, home or work. I clicked on Home & now it's working LOL No clue. That wasn't there yesterday. I HATE COMPUTERS LOL And I used to love them. I've been working on them since 1984. No comment. LOL Take care
