Hi there, when did i get new updates when using Office 2016 VL with Windows 10. I have cheked the option to let windows update, update microsoft products. I got updates, but these are only security fixes. Actual version on my System (Windows 10): 16.0.4405.1000. On another machine i installed latest Office 2016 Pro Plus C2R and noticed that this has a newer build Version: 16.0.7070.2028. So did i get these new updates when using a VL version of Office? If yes, when and if not, how can it get these? And can someone explan the updates mechanism of VL products? thanks.
the C2R retail version has been updated to more recent build than the old MSI based VL installer, but the functions are all teh same. If you installed the VL, all you need to do is to run update, it will update itself to the most recent build. Otherwise, install C2R version, and use KMS tools to convert it to VL, then activate and update. It will update to the same most latest version. I believe the VL will have incremental update, meaning only components that need to be updated will get updates. While with C2R you may be need the whole new installer to update to the most recent version. So in essence, not really a big difference in these two in terms of end result. I always use the VL version, then update it to most recent build.
This month's non-security updates will be pushed to WU next tuesday (tomorrow) while next month will return on usual date, first tuesday of the month
MSI based VOL is different from C2R based RET. Unless you installed C2R based VOL (Real C2R VOL - NOT converted by VOL certificates).
Will secuity updates affect the version number of Office? So for example will they lift the number up to higher one? What update i should run you mean? Windows Update or Office Update? Office Update i can not do, because in Office (for example in Word) there is no update button or something else. And on Windows Update i got only secuity updates i think. But maybe it is not possible on a VL Version of Office to update to same version number as C2R Version. Maybe a VL Version did only get secuoty updates by design and no feature updates? yeah i know, but in which exact way? what's the exact difference there and important for me the difference in the update mechanism. so that's why i asked the question. Will Office VL get the updates later or never or only security fixes, but no feature updates? I found no explanation about this.
Go to Settings --> Update and Security --> Advanced Options, check "Give me updates for other MS products when I update Windows". Then just run Windows update, and you'll get both Windows and Office updates. For Office VL you can get both security and feature updates. You won't miss anything if you run VL.

I have a related question. I installed Office VL, but only some components. Yet, Windows Update downloads updates for ALL components, even if I'll never use them (even if I only have Word installed, for example, it will download updates for Powerpoint, Outlook...). Is this the intended behavior and is there a way to change it?
intended behavior, because: 1- Even though some updates are labeled or targeted for certain office product, it have some shared components across other products 2- when you install Office suite (Professional/Standard/ProPlus), usually the updates will be offered for all programs in the suite
Hi everyone! I'm having a very annoying issue with Outlook 2016 (VL), which randomly blanks out completely both the subject and the body of emails I try to send with my gmail account (not always). I am trying to deal and look for this issue on the web since a couple of months but didn't get to a solution after trying many suggestions. I am writing here as all the posts I find on answers.microsoft.com or wherever mention "fixed in version ..." and every time that version is lower than my VL one. I cannot understand if I am up-to-date, basically, even though WU installs everything, last time is yesterday for example. To give you an example, this post here http ://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-mso_win10/emails-saved-in-outlook-message-format-being-sent/20abc364-93e8-492f-a518-a2ca613a23e3?page=2 reports my problem (may) be fixed in version 16.0.6919.5703 while right now my version is 16.0.4432.1000 (x64). Can I do something to receive/install those updates, or how do you compare/match the VL / C2R version numbering logic? Cheers
