So I just found out that MS has obliterated the Pro licence that I paid for about a year ago. I did a clean install as per usual (done dozens prior) and always ended up on Pro, but this most recent time ended up on Home for the first time ever. Naturally, something was off.

I logged into MS Accounts management where, about 6 months ago I was still able to see my actual licence purchase within my account billing / order history. Now, my licence purchase has been wiped from history entirely.

That is the world of "digital" licences, apparently.

What can someone do to resolve this?

The licence was tied to my HWID, but clearly that is not the case anymore. And wiped from billing history. I am quite frustrated now and skeptical now about modern day Microsoft and Windows 10 when something that you pay real money for can simply be taken from you with no traces left behind.

Thank you for your time and any suggestions.

Thank you, but I did try to force upgrade to Pro by mounting the ISO first but it enforced the entry of a product key. Also, I tried clean installing Pro by USB as per usual but in this case it failed to activate. I believe my best bet is to call MS now but oddly they have removed all records of my purchase and therefore will make it more difficult.

When I get this digital licence / HWID / paid Pro licence issue sorted out I will post back here in this thread just in case it may be beneficial to others.

Have you tried to force Pro to Install?

If not you can force Windows 10 setup to install the pro edition by adding a file called ei.cfg to the Windows 10 setup ISO image.

    The contents are:

    [EditionID]
    Professional
    [Channel]
    Retail

This was that early program that Microsoft ran a while back in which they were selling Pro upgrade licences for $2.50. :)

Anyway, I think that I've got my activation issue all sorted out. I ended up running the Activation Troubleshooter as suggested here. So I am running the latest 14379 Insider build, Pro x64. It shows activated and shows also as being part of the Insider program.

Can someone confirm (attached image below) that the verbiage used in that screenshot refers to my own paid Pro licence which is linked to my Microsoft Account and HWID? Or would that same verbiage be used also for regular Insider activation?

Thank you all for your time and suggestions. Cheers! :)

The Windows 10 Pro Licenses are sold in Thailand already in two different level:
    1. Microsoft Original, with 32bit & 64bit DVD Medias for THB 7,900.00
    2. Windows 10 OEM THB 5,900.00-6,000.00 with one DVD 32bit or 64bit!

That simply means that the price is above US$ 155.00!!

Even the OP didn't mind about that US$ 2.50 to lose, counting how many Licenses maybe get disabled, may end up in Million's!! And such should never be accepted!

Whether or not I don't know, but I think it should, be nice, call them, it's not about the $2.50 spent, but what it will cost you, if they don't honor what you thought was for Pro license.

Uhmmm, Microsoft announced January 21st, 2015 that the licence would be free to upgrade for the first year, you bought this about a year ago?? I was never aware of any such offer, I may be wrong and someone here may correct me but I'm thinking you were spoofed and someone got $2.50 of yours a year ago and you just found out.

    I hope I'm wrong.

Win 10 was first officially released on the 29th of july 2015 (1507 / 10240 TH1). With the release of 1511 (10586.0) the use of older genuine keys for activating clean installs of 10 (without doing the upgrade first) has started.
