I had Acronis Western Digital Edition installed but removed it

I have run SFC /SCANNOW since uninstalling Acronis

I triggered a current backup by deleting all of my current backups, then it asked if I wanted a fresh one, I said yes now it's working, but I still cannot open status

    maybe Acronis broke something.

yes it is, in fact the scheduled backup actually runs. I just can't access the panel.

ok turns out it is a permissions issue

when I set Administrators to full control on the top key, it went down 1 level of subkey, not 2 levels, so the InitPropertyBag ended up having no changes (I think that's why) the ownership change though did go all the way down.

I had to go to advanced permissions and check "replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object"

this problem is probably fixed in newer versions of Acronis, I was using Acronis Western Digital edition, a free (and probably out-dated) version that I found on WD's site that only works if you have at least 1 WD hard drive in the system
