    Hi,
I want to have two HDDs conected in RAID0.
    Motherboard: Asus P5E-VM DO
    HDD: Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 HDP725050GLA360 500GB
    Questions:
    1) Does my motherboard support RAID0? I have found in BIOS option RAID but without number
    2) Can I make RAID0 using my HDD and new one HDD Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C (3.5'', 500GB, SATAII, 7200RPM 500GB)?
    3) To make RAID0 should I format my old HDD first?
    4) What more about RAID should I know?
Thanks in advance for all your replies and sorry for my english

So can I use HDP725050GLA360 and HDS721050CLA362? Both HDDs use SATA II, both are 500GB, both use 16MB cache but name is different.

In theory the drives don't have to be identical for RAID0. With that said, I agree with acrsn..... the drives should be identical for best results. One of my Seagatge drives (RAID0) failed in March on a P5N-D. Seagate sent me a drive with a different model number, and the physical appearance of the drive was different as well (thinner), same cache size and RPM's. Before installing the drive I contacted Seagate support for some assurance the mis-matched drives would work and was told that it would.

Saturday (May 14) the array failed...... Seagate has agreed to replace both hard drives with identical drives.

OK. What about TrueCrypt? I haven't got encrypted any partition currently. When I made RAID0 can I encrypt both HDDs (all partitions)?

I hope that 2 encrypted HDDs in RAID0 will be faster than one encrypted HDD.

Although it's possible, full disk encryption makes a mess of the partition. Might want to consider a container on another partition.

OK, thanks for your replies. I'll check performance on not encrypted in RAID0 and after encryption. :)
Yes, I know I'm crazy

I plugined in both HDDs and when I try to open RAID Configuration Utility then nothing happends. I tried press ctrl+i and ctrl+j . Just when I enable raid in bios then after reboot bios freeze and I don't react for anything. :( Both HDDs are working if configured as IDE but I can't enable raid. I tried to enable Addon ROM Display Mode but still nothing happened. Can you help me please?

Hi, see if this helps. Shutdown, unplug the cord, and disconnect the hard drives. Boot into the bios and disable any unused controllers, JMicron, Marvell, etc; Enable RAID, save bios settings and shutdown via PSU power switch. Make sure the sata cables are connected to the Intel sata ports on the board and try it again..... The Add-On-ROM displays the status of your drives when booting up, leave it on the default setting.

I think I tried everything I can but nothing helps. Maybe Should I format all disks and then try to make RAID? How to do it the best way?

Nope, it didn't help. I tried set sata configuration AHCI and then bios freeze while detecting disk plugined in as second disk (doesn't matter which, I tried swich them). What more can I do if both disk are working great while configured as IDE?

Not much else you can do. I doubt flashing the bios will do any good unless a newer revision addresses the problem you're having. Clearing the CMOS probably won't work either but you can try it.

I solved the problem. New HDDs (probably?) don't have MBR. I booted VistaPE from DVD and created new MBR sectors on both disks. RAID0 is working great now!
Thank you so much guys for help and your replies. I'm so happy now! :D

I knew you could do it, good job, and you deserve the credit. Post back and let us know how you like RAID0 performance when you get set up. Don't forget to keep a copy of the files you don't want to lose on a non-RAID drive. RAID0 has no redundancy, if you lose a drive, the chances of recovering the data are slim to none.

:) I'm encrypting C: now. Sorry I'm too tired for tests. Yes, I know :p but I don't backup my data. Only sometimes I do it before format (for example today) :p
