[SOLVED] Strange defrag on slow machine

    @ The Dev - I've seen something similar to this on a Windows 7 machine. The user had set the amount of disk space allocated to system restore at 25% and then let a very large number of system restore points accumulate over a period of about 2 years. The Windows Disk Defragmenter couldn't make any progress at all with the mess until I deleted them.

    Hi guys, thanks for the help.

    @John Sutherland - That worked, they were unmovable files. Deleted restores/shadow copies plus temporarily turned system restore off, disabled hibernation and temporarily disabled pagefile.sys. Analyzed the disk after and 90% of the unmovable files disappeared.

    @Joe C - No rootkits - checked with TDSSKiller and MBAR :)
