I have a volume license activated windows 8.0 (possibly with kms but I forget the details). I decided to try out windows 10, but haven't found a thread that fit this case. I don't think I can upgrade directly to windows 10 (reference: "How to upgrade from W7/8.1 without going through the complete upgrade process") If I were to upgrade to 8.1 first, I'd run into the same problem with VL. What's the best way for me to get windows 10? (Is there some way to swap out my VL for another license, or maybe downgrade to windows 7 first? I do remember seeing a tool that does downgrade/upgrades, but I'm not sure if VL gets in the way of that as well) Thanks
Not for inplace upgrade but what I did was deployed install.wim from win7 (ultimate) iso to a win7.vhd (activate win7 with windowsloader) using dism (same thing for win10 retail.iso to win10.vhd) then attach both to bcd (using easybcd or simular) (only temporary). boot to win7 vhd (oobe) install all drivers etc.. generate GenuineTicket.xml boot into new win10.vhd load GenuineTicket.xml and activate/configure, then trash/remove win7.vhd from bcd as its no longer needed. activation ticket is not bound to vhd but rather hardware. Using vhd meathod just keeps my ssd drive clean and easy to start from scratch. Its not ideal but works. I keep a spare template/untouched win10.vhd and win7.vhd and windows loader and DriverPaks on my bcd bootable usb 3 drive. ~MC
I will most likely begin with a clean install of windows 7 or windows 8.1. How should I activate win7/8.1 to ensure that the subsequent upgrade to windows 10 is possible? (volume licensing is definitely out, which of the following would be ok: daz loader, mstookit, or kmspico? there's probably ignorance involved in this last question, srry in advance )
On 7 DAZ will do it and the upgrade or "gatherosstate/clean install" option will establish a HWID. On 8.1 KMSpico and upgrade will also work (real upgrade, not the gatherosstate option).
Hi there I am trying to upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10 Pro, I have so far used the Retail Key for 8.1 and am about to use the MMS activator before trying to upgrade to Win 10 Pro. The PC is a Lenovo All-in-one pre-installed with Win 8.1 Would you suggest anything different to what Iam doing? Can I use the Multi-OEM project method to do the upgrade? Thanks in advance
hi there can you please show me step by step how you did it? I'm kinda new to this. I have pre installed Windows 8.1 Single Language. I want to upgrade to win 10 pro.
Thanks for reply. It didn't work. Windows 10 pro is not activated. It is showing error message something like it can't reach activation server. From the looks of it, it appears win 8.1 single lang can't be upgraded to win 10 pro via this method.
These are the steps I performed recently for a PC wihout any OS installed on it : 1. Install Windows 8.1 Pro (using the ei.cfg file) 2. KMS activation with MTK 3. In-place upgrade to Windows 10 TH2 (i.e 10586) 4. Change the Windows 10 key with the generic Windows 10 Pro key 5. In-place upgrade to Windows 10 AU
I see! I used Win10 1607 English for an upgrade and this certainly does not work. Will try tonight again with 10586 iso. Do I have to download this iso via Windows ISO Downloader?
