I have just upgraded an Acer Aspire 5610 from Windowa 7 SP1 x86 Home Premium to Windows 10 x86 Home, then did a clean install of Windows 10.
Sound quality is very bad with all drivers I tried:
    - default Windows 10 drivers
    - original Vista drivers v6.0.1.5334
    - Windows Catalog drivers v6.0.1.7535 (16/06/2015)
    - Windows Catalog drivers v6.0.1.7541 (18/06/2015)
    - Realtek drivers R2.79 (25/07/2015)

Also, there is no option to disable audio enhancement in the advanced tab like it had in Windows 7/8.x.
    Hardware id is HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0883&SUBSYS_10250090&REV1000

Anyone else having this kind of problem?

not quiet positive but I read about switching bitrates to 16bit or such values and problem was solved. Please try if you can alter these settings

I hear no difference. Something might be wrong with your hardware.

Tried updating driver, Windows found no updates.

Yes, setting to 16-bit (CD Quality) makes no difference.

Worked fine before upgrading to Windows 10.

Plain windows sound like inserting/removing USB flash drives, popup warning, etc, all sound really bad. I had this problem once on another laptop and disabling audio enhancement or lowering audio quality always solved the problem... but not this time :(

I'm working with a laptop, so adding a new sound card is not an option. This might be only happening with a select few, so I'm sure there's no problem with anyone's ears. We just got unlucky, that's all. Gonna try a few older drivers to see if I can make the problem go away. It might get fixed with an automatic windows/driver update in the future, but I'm not gonna sit around and wait for it.

Why reinstall windows 7 when you can boot from a linux usb. It would be a lot faster way just to do a sound check.

The drivers in linux are already included. Boot from linux usb, open vlc, play audio. If it sounds good the problem is the windows drivers.

yes standard drivers which maybe sound like s**t. it's just not the same. maybe there are options for sound enhancement missing or anything else and then it will sound as s**t again and he still does not know if it is a w10 or hardware problem.

If it sounds good using the linux usb flash boot drive, it's not a hardware problem.

Yes, I did reinstall Windows 7 to check if it was a hardware problem but also to see what drivers it would use out of the box: High Definition Audio Device v6.1.7601.17514 from Microsoft, and just by adjusting the sound volume with the mouse and hearing the "ding" it does, it's clearly working fine. I'm going to try some of the other drivers I tested with Windows 10 just to make sure they all work, but now I'm pretty sure the problem is only with Windows 10.

    EDIT:
Just for the "fun" of it, also installed Windows 8.1 with Update, and surprise, surprise: stock drivers High Definition Audio Device v6.3.9600.16384 from Microsoft sound as bad as with Windows 10! All I needed was to click on the tray volume icon and adjust the sound, and it splits out a garbled "dong"... on with the quest!

If you're talking about the stock driver that Windows 10 installs, that's the same one that originated the problem. I'm currently testing drivers in Windows 8.1 with Update, as I'm almost certain that the laptop previously ran this Windows with no sound problems, but stock drivers sound just like in Windows 10. If Windows 7 SP1 sounds normal, it's definitely a driver problem not solved since Windows 8 and beyond.
