it 's not installing ... I do not have the exact error code in mind right now but I have removed the avast antivirus still no success.

Are there some precautionary measures I should take before installing the service pack?

I have also try to launch windows update but it is not working.

ok guys , now I know why it was not updating. the guy who sold the laptop to us told me today that it was a pirated version of windows 7 so I assume that something was messed up somewhere. Btw how can I know if a version of windows is genuine or not? how do I verify this ?

Try the Query tool from the MRP project, if it finds a valid slic for 7 you can install a genuine 7 SP1, when you use the MRP oem folder it will be automatically genuinely activated by slic + key + certificates or use daz loader, if there is a valid slic it will also apply the correct key + certificates and the laptop will also be activated genuinely.

Also, DAZ loader has the WATRemover with lastest one v2.2.2 tools that may fix the problems. I had one customer who has same issues and I use that tool and did resolve the problems

It's not the WATRemover it's the WATFIX what daz made, it tries to fix the harm that WATRemover (actually it's called RemoveWAT) has done to the system.
