Hello all, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ31M and need to change the BIOS. I have the current BIOS (original ROM file) and also the new BIOS. Before doing anything drastic I want to take every precaution and I haven't yet found a place explaining exactly what to do should something go south. In the worst case scenario the laptop won't boot up after flashing the BIOS, so I would need to use the original ROM file to get things back to normal. Is this possible? How? I found that thread in the forum suggesting to boot from a USB stick but I can't really understand how that works or how to do it even, I am a bit of a newby when it comes to the BIOS. Does somebody know of a good place explaining how to do this? Thanks in advance!
A quick update on this. I haven't yet flashed my BIOS, but I did find and read this post, "theeldergeek com"- "topic:21209" and it does help providing several ways to attempt a crisis recovery on a Phoenix BIOS. Mine is indeed a Phoenix BIOS (R2110J7). The doubt I have now is regarding those key strokes combinations one has to execute in order to activate the Crisis Recovery, I read in some forums that it's not available for all notebooks, does anybody knows if Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31M has this crisis recovery mechanism? Thanks!
