I was given a Sotec 3123x Laptop that currently has Windows XP Home installed and I need to do a fresh install of XP. When I run the OEM Bios changer program to check for what string is on the Bios but it shows nothing and closes right away. Is there a way to add Dll or HP SLP to the Bios so I can install an OEM copy. The laptop has a retail sticker of XP home on the bottom with a retail key. I would prefer to install XP Pro with OEM activation. There is no Bios update available for this laptop so is there a way to add the SLP string to the Bios? The laptop has an AMI Bios as I just checked. What are my options here. thanks BD
Backup the bios with the bios backup thingy, or just use the DMI tattoo disk. I would use the tattoo disk first, you can add DMI to AMI specific by exiting out of the disk pressing 4 and typing DMI at the prompt..it is more specific. You should have no problems whichever method you use..
Open up a Command Prompt and execute the program manually... this prevents it from closing automaticly OEM Bios changer program ???
I rand the DMI CD but get an error message when I press 2 to add the HP SLP to the Bios Error 30002687 PnP Function Error Error Code 0x87 when there is insufficient storage space to add the desired structure. bummer. I thought this was easy but I guess not. grrrrr whats next? I guess those old cheapo laptop are hard to mod. edit: I did run the OEMBios changer from the command prompt and the black window is just empty. Help
