this has been covered before... it's not "disabled"
sp1 gives a different version number to windows updates and if anything on there doesn't match the number, it won't offer the download
ms will eventually make live essentials available on windows update

    Hi Kouryu and thank you....

Do you think there are any important Windows Updates which have not yet been made available for SP1?

    no
the only things that are "missing" are the optional updates, which is no big deal and you can manually get them yourself anyway

There are some optional updates available, even after making a fresh install from the Windows 7 SP1 ISO.
I was hoping to install from this media and have a fully up to date install including all updates, optional and critical.

It is looking more and more as though the only way to have this is to install Windows 7 Non-SP1, complete all updates and then lastly update to SP1.

and what updates are you looking for?
    windows live essentials? security essentials?

sp1 plus the current updates is EVERYTHING you need for the system and is what a non-SP1 install will give you anyway
those other silly optional updates you want can be manually downloaded
those optional updates are there as a convenience... they're optional for a reason!

is it really that much of an issue to download and install those few extra things manually?
so what's the big deal of needing to have those "missing" things in windows update? convenience? efficiency? laziness?
