    Note that files that are named sql_server_2014_enterprise_edition are for the legacy Server+CAL licensing model. This edition is limited to 20 CPU cores, and this limit is enforced by software.

    You should instead download the files named     sql_server_2014_enterprise_core_edition. This edition is for the per-Core licensing model, and run on unlimited CPU cores. No limit is enforced by software.

    Contrary to Windows versions, the Core designation for SQL Server is the superior edition with no limitations. This was already the case for SQL Server 2012 and applies to 2014 as well.
