Since WEI has been "killed" in Windows 8.1, how do we get Windows to recognize an SSD? Does it do it by itself now? I've always had to run a WEI test to get Windows to recognize I was using an SSD (for defrag and whatnot).
SSD was reconized since W7 (that i know of, didn't use a ssd before that), WEI was nothing more than a indication on how (and what) to improve hardware wise.
It is recognized automatically. In order to be sure, run Windows Defragmenter, and look under "Media Type". SSDs would be listed as "Solid State Drive", while HDD would be listed as "Hard Disk Drive".
WEI is still there, but "hidden". WinSAT runs after initial setup, as part of the first "Maintenance" task. You can easily check it in the Task Manager, looking at the processes...
Detection is not--and had never been--done by benchmark. It's been said (though unconfirmed) that SSDs are identified by their reporting 0 for the rotation speed.
My ssd work's fine and very fast .... Also you do all know that WEI was a marketing thing and held very little value, right?
