For some reason every time I open the start menu and start typing, the menu loses focus and closes. I did a refresh install and it worked for a while, but the problem came back. Also the search button next to the menu does nothing, not sure if it's related. Does anyone else have this problem or better yet a solution?
Sure, but previews for Windows 7 and 8 were pretty much fully functional for me. Hopefully there's a fix for this.
Are using Enterprise of Core? Mine work perfectly well and it is on a clean installation. I always advise people who are ready to see the least errors to do a clean installation of Windows Previews. It's always worked like a charm! Edit: I wrote that before you replied with the cause of the problem
Sorta true. Of those the only build that was really cumbersome was the Windows 8 Developer Preview. Couldn't really use that one effectively. The Consumer Preview->Release Preview->RTM versions of Windows 8 were pretty much the same and I didn't even let Windows 8 run on my XPS 12 when I bought it (the first thing I did was get it into the Windows 8.1 Consumer Preview). That all said, Windows 10's preview ain't all that flaky either (aside for aforementioned weirdness like the OP).
my start menu has stopped working completely unless i switch to the older version, any ideas? i dont use msi stuff anymore.
I was also about to suggest it's likely another application somewhere that is misbehaving...my start menu is working fine. I unpinned all of the tiles and I like it a lot at the moment--I really like the left-click/right-click operation, too! Afterburner: before I installed 10TP I was having difficulties with that utility--think it's pretty bugged at the moment, myself. Also, don't forget it comes in two parts--Afterburner and the RivaTuner Server. If you uninstall the first, the second is still there and running; and vice-versa. You might want to give it a whirl without RTS and see if that's the problem--or not. Me, I'm happier not messing with it A/RTS at all at the moment...10TP is a lot more fun presently
The first person with the same problem said to uninstall the Afterburner to have it fixed. If you still want to keep the Afterburner there is need to look for ways to get around it. Perhaps one of them is by reporting it to Microsoft through the Feedback channel.
I have this when i used punto switcher. I can't add start menu to exclusions so i uninstalled punto switcher.
